One Perfect Day in Bologna

I took a spontaneous day trip to Bologna which is just a 2-hour drive from my town in Italy. I instantly fell for it and it will be a repeat city! Bologna feels progressive, community-driven, genuinely friendly…and yes, the food lives up to the hype. Below is how I spent one perfect day, plus the spots I’d go back to in a heartbeat.
I stayed at AC Hotel Bologna, which was comfortable, but if you’re going for a quick visit, I recommend staying closer to the historic center so you can walk everywhere. There are some cute Airbnbs in the areas.
Stays:
Eats (Because… Bologna)
Allegra - Come for coffee, stay for dinner! It’s truly a vibe. I ordered a glass of local red, fresh sourdough bread, and a phenomenal bolognese. Simple, soulful, unforgettable.
Sfoglia Rina - fresh pasta, great variety, and really cute interior!
Mo Mortadella Lab – Iconic mortadella sandwiches and peak Bologna energy.

Bars (Don’t Skip These)
Senza Nome – One of the most unique bars I’ve ever been to. The bartenders are deaf and/or mute, so you order using sign language (clear instructions on the wall). Cozy, welcoming, and truly special.
Le Stanze – Possibly the most stunning bar I’ve ever stepped into. Trust me!
Wine Passion – €1 glasses of wine, or bring a reusable bottle and they’ll fill it with local wine at a great price. I’ll be going back here to check it out on my next visit.
Le Moline – Right near Le Stanze and perfect for a casual bite.
Grab Apertivo at Aurum – I really enjoyed this spot! The staff was friendly and the inside is super cozy (pictured below).

What to Do in the City
Al Regno Della Forma – Famous for Parmigiano Reggiano and traditional cheeses. Grab some to-go!
Piazza Santo Stefano - One of the most atmospheric corners of the city.
Fontana del Nettuno - classic Bologna landmark.
Basilica di San Petronio - Grand, historic, and right in the heart of the city. It’s free entry as well.

The Walking Tour That Made the Day
I booked a walking tour through Airbnb (linking it below!), and it ended up being the highlight of the trip. The guide, Addy, was so much fun, and by the end, our whole group was hanging out! Grabbing drinks, swapping stories, and ending the night together at Senza Nome. That kind of spontaneous connection perfectly sums up Bologna.

Final Thoughts
Bologna is a 10/10 city! Rich in history, big on heart, and overflowing with charm…and carbs. If you have just one day, this itinerary hits all the right notes. I already can’t wait to go back. TYWIL ♥️
