Switzerland, where do I start?! I absolutely love this country. I feel like as soon as you take a breath there that the air just feels cleaner. It’s safe, stunning, and effortlessly cool, which makes it perfect for a solo trip where you want adventure and soft, slow mornings. From adrenaline-filled alpine towns to lakeside villages that feel straight out of a Microsoft desktop screensaver. I wanted to share my favorite Swiss cities and some recommendations for what to do in each!
📍 INTERLAKEN

Vibe: adrenaline girlie meets fairytale! Interlaken is your gateway city where cute cafes meet “should I paraglide today?” energy.
What to do:
Paragliding over the lakes
Take the funicular to Harder Kulm for unreal sunset views (also a beautiful restaurant at the top)
Cruise Lake Brienz or Lake Thun
Use Interlaken as your base for day trips to Jungfrau region
Solo girl notes: Easy to meet other travelers, super safe, and everything feels built for explorers.

📍 ASCONA

Vibe: Italian summer but make it Swiss & serene.
Ascona is the underrated soft-life queen of Switzerland.
What to do:
Cafe hop along Lake Maggiore
Wander the pastel old town
Aperitivo by the water
Seven Senses Beach club right by the lake
Solo girl notes: Calm, elegant, and perfect if you want peace without boredom.

📍 LUCERNE

Vibe: classic European beauty with a cozy confidence. It’s super polished without being intimidating.
What to do:
Walk Chapel Bridge at golden hour
Boat ride on Lake Lucerne
Day trip to Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi
Stroll the old town for boutiques + chocolate stops
Solo girl notes: One of the best cities in Switzerland for solo wandering in my opinion — compact, walkable, and safe!

📍 GRINDELWALD

Vibe: It’s not flashy but it’s grounding, cinematic, and deep main-character vibes.
What to do:
Glacier Gorge
Scenic hikes for all levels
Grab a bier and a schnitzel after your hike
Hot chocolate with mountain views
Solo girl notes: Quiet, grounding, and empowering. I’ve felt relaxed and accomplished all at the same time in Grindelwald.

📍 GENEVA

Vibe: polished, international, girl boss on vacation energy. Geneva is super chic and gives more city than nature.
What to do:
See the Jet d’Eau (she’s dramatic)
Walk or bike the lakefront paths
Explore the old town + viewpoints (rooftop bars here are great)
Cafe people-watching is elite here
Solo girl notes: Extremely safe, refined, and perfect if you love cities with substance.

Final Thoughts 🇨🇭
Whether you’re paragliding over turquoise lakes, sipping wine by the water, or wandering cobblestone streets with nowhere to be, Switzerland has a way of making solo travel feel empowering and romantic at the same time. Each city offers its own uniqueness! Some bold, some slow, all unforgettable. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to book that solo trip, this is it.
