One Perfect Friday Evening in Kansas City 🤎

After a long week of work, I like to keep my Fridays pretty casual. But as I’ve been settling into Kansas City, I’ve also been eager to start working through the endless list of recommendations I’ve collected from friends, locals, and anyone willing to share their favorite spots.

This past Friday, I finally checked a few off the list and it made for a pretty perfect evening. So, whether you’re a KC local looking for your next night out or just passing through the city, here are three spots that are absolutely worth adding to your list.

First Stop: XO HiFi

If you’re looking for a cocktail bar that feels intentionally cool instead of trying too hard, this is it.

Tucked away in a quieter pocket of the city, XO HiFi immediately became one of my favorite cocktail spots in Kansas City. The space is warm, beautifully designed, and built around something I wish every bar would embrace: vinyl. Records were spinning all evening, and I spent half the time wondering how quickly I could convince myself I needed a listening room in my future home (made a new Pinterest board while I sat there).

I ordered the Hoshi Zora, a Japanese-inspired cocktail that was fresh, balanced, and unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere. The entire menu leans creative without becoming gimmicky, and the bartenders somehow manage to be incredibly knowledgeable while still making the space feel relaxed and welcoming.

Dinner: Fox & Pearl

Just a few minutes away sits Fox & Pearl, and somehow it matched the vibe perfectly.

The menu changes with the seasons, and everything feels thoughtful, rustic, and ingredient-driven rather than overcomplicated. It’s the kind of restaurant where every plate tastes like someone genuinely cared about building layers and layers of flavor.

We ordered the heirloom tomatoes, stuffed squash, and roasted duck leg, and honestly… there wasn’t a weak dish on the table. Every bite was earthy, rich, and beautifully balanced without feeling heavy. It felt like comfort food that had gone to culinary school.

If I Had One More Stop…

I’d finish the evening with a nightcap at Swordfish Tom’s. Hidden, intimate, and known for exceptional cocktails, it feels like the perfect final chapter to an evening that’s more about slowing down than checking boxes. I will be visiting here soon!
