If you’re dreaming of pastel buildings, tiled streets, ocean breezes, and a city that feels romantic without being lonely, then Lisbon is calling! Portugal in general is wildly underrated, and Lisbon is the perfect intro into the country. It is safe, friendly, walkable (but prepare for incline!) and full of little moments that you’ll cherish forever. Whether you’re solo for the first time or a seasoned “table for one” kween, Lisbon makes it easy to fall in love with traveling alone.

Where to Eat

Breakfast & Brunch (aka the main event)

Dear Breakfast: Cute interiors, great coffee, and comforting breakfast plates. Ideal for easing into the day or journaling with a latte.

Fauna & Flora: A solo traveler favorite. Think beautiful brunch dishes, friendly staff, and a cozy-but-buzzy vibe that doesn’t feel awkward alone.

Lunch & Dinner (effortlessly cool, no fuss)

Ponto Final: Relaxed, flavorful, and perfect for a low-key dinner on the water after a long day of walking. Make sure to look up when the sunsets and book your table then!

Entropia: Chic and a bit elevated but such a hidden gem! Oysters, margs, the whole menu is fire.

DaNoi: Italian, French, and Asian influences - this restaurant is very cool and so yummy. Order the tuna tacos!

Boa-Bao: Authentic Asian food with signature crafted cocktails! I loved the little outdoor patio area as well.

Where to Stay

📍 Neighborhood is called Anjos (short walk into the prime area:

📍Super central spot & a lot around:

📍Heart of Alfama - super cute neighborhood, highly recommend any AirBnB in this area:

What to Do

Get lost in Alfama: The oldest neighborhood in the city, full of winding alleys, laundry-lined streets, and pure magic.

Rent a TukTuk: This is a great way to see the city and so much fun! I loved riding around and seeing all the sites.

Chase miradouros (viewpoints): Miradouro da Senhora do Monte or São Pedro de Alcântara at sunset? Unreal.

Take a Surf Lesson: This got me out of comfort zone and ended up being a blast. How many people can say they surfed in Lisbon??

Belém district: History, river views, and iconic architecture like Belém Tower.

LX Factory: Cool shops, art, and cafés in a former industrial space.

Ride Tram 28: Tourist-y, yes, but still worth it at least once.

Must Do Day Trip: Sintra

A day trip to Sintra is a non-negotiable. It’s fairytale-coded, lush, and feels like stepping into another world.

How to Get There (Easy & Stress-Free)

  1. Head to Rossio Station in Lisbon

  2. Take the direct train to Sintra

  3. Ride time: 40ish minutes

  4. Cost: inexpensive, buy tickets at the station or kiosk

Once there, you can walk, TukTuk, Uber, or take local buses to hit highlights like Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. Go early if you can! It gets busy.

Final Thoughts

If this post has you opening Priceline “just to look,” consider this your sign. Lisbon is the kind of city you get beautifully lost in! Wandering without a plan, eating well, soaking up the sun, and realizing you’re genuinely enjoying every second. It’s warm, welcoming, and effortlessly charming in a way that makes solo travel feel exciting instead of intimidating. Book the flight. You won’t regret it. Portugal knows what it’s doing.
