There’s something so exciting about being brand new to a city. Every restaurant, neighborhood, and happy hour feels like a little discovery, and after spending the past week settling into Kansas City, I’m already starting to understand why so many people love it here. From fresh oysters and frozen cocktails to cozy breweries and incredible tacos, my first week has been filled with great food, even better conversations, and a few places that have already earned a spot on my “I’ll definitely be back” list.

🦪 Earls Premier

Such a cool spot with some of the friendliest (and funniest) bartenders. They shuck oysters right in front of you, the frozen Hugos are incredible, and the menu is honestly hard to beat. I loved the lobster roll, fish & chips, and was pleasantly surprised to find an Italian white wine from Friuli on the menu. Can’t wait to go back.

🍋‍🟩 Mean Mule

Stopped in for happy hour with an old gal pal from Wichita days and it did not disappoint. I ordered a Paloma followed by a spicy margarita, both were so good. The interior and overall vibe were just as great as the drinks. Definitely a fun place to spend an afternoon or evening.

🌮 Sea Capitan

Owned by the same team as Earls Premier, but with a Mexican-inspired menu. The margaritas were excellent, and the tacos al pastor were an easy 10/10. Bonus: I got to catch up with some old friends from Ramstein, and we ended up talking for hours. One of those unexpectedly perfect evenings.

🍺 Strange Days Brewing

A great place to watch the Argentina match! The beer was delicious, the bartenders were welcoming, and the atmosphere made it easy to settle in for a while. I also grabbed a burger and fries, and both were excellent.

One week down in KC, and I’m already impressed. Excited to keep exploring and sharing more favorites as I find them. If week one is any indication, I’m in for a pretty delicious adventure. Next up on my list: finally diving into Kansas City’s legendary BBQ scene, checking out a few rooftop bars with skyline views, and continuing to explore all the neighborhoods that make this city so unique.
