48 Hours in Rovinj, Croatia

If you’re craving a weekend that feels slow, salty, and sun-soaked in the best possible way, let me introduce you to one of my FAVORITE hidden gems in Croatia… Rovinj. This tiny seaside town on Croatia’s Istrian coast is all pastel houses, cobblestone alleys, swims in the Adriatic, and long dinners that turn into sunsets. It’s the kind of place where you wake up with nowhere to be, wander until you’re hungry, and end every night by the water with a drink in hand. I’ve been here twice now and every time I leave I contemplate Croatian citizenship so I can live out retirement in Rovinj one day. Today I am giving you the ultimate 48-hour escape!

Smaller Crowd - I really like this small Airbnb in town!
🔸 Day 1 — Old Town Wandering + Sunset Dining
Morning
Drop your bags and head straight into the old town. No maps. No agenda. Wander the maze of cobblestone streets, peek into tiny art galleries and handmade jewelry shops, and stop for an espresso or pastry whenever something smells too good to resist. Climb up to St. Euphemia Church for panoramic views over the red roofs and the Adriatic.

Afternoon
Walk along the harbor promenade and grab a slow lunch somewhere casual. Fresh seafood pasta, grilled vegetables, local olive oil — you really can’t go wrong here. Then as always… gelato. Always gelato.

Evening
Dinner is at La Puntulina (book ahead!). https://puntulina.eu/
Tables sit right on the rocks above the sea. Waves crash below. The sky turns orange and pink. Order seafood. Order wine. Stay through sunset. It’s one of those dinners you’ll talk about for years.

Night
End the night at Mediterraneo Bar. Tiny colorful chairs. Right on the water. Slow music. Salty air. It’s the perfect “do absolutely nothing” nightcap spot.

🔸 Day 2 — Swimming + Boats + Dolphins
Morning
Start early and head straight to the water. Rovinj is famous for rocky swim spots instead of sandy beaches, which honestly makes it better! There are fewer crowds, insanely clear water, and easy jump-in access. Bring a towel, sunscreen, and just hop between swim spots. You can expect ridiculously clear turquoise water, fish swimming around you, and zero desire to leave.

Midday
Rent a small motorboat (you don’t need anything fancy). I used the Click & Boat app to browse boat options! Cruise the coastline, anchor in hidden coves, and swim in places you’d never reach by foot. Seeing Rovinj from the sea is a must. And if you’re lucky? Dolphins. They’re surprisingly common here, especially later in the day. It feels unreal when they surface beside you.

Afternoon
After boating, grab something easy and light back in town. Then honestly… nap. Or people-watch. Or get another gelato. This town is built for slow living.

Evening
Spend your last night strolling the harbor, picking up little souvenirs, and soaking in the atmosphere. Head to dinner at Matori - so delicious! After that find a bench near the water and soak in your last evening.
Quick tips for your 48 hours
Book La Puntulina ahead
Bring water shoes for rocky swim spots (not fashionable but necessary!)
Rent boats early in the day in summer
Stay inside/near the old town if possible

Final Thoughts
After two days in Rovinj, don’t be surprised if you’re already checking flights back. Between the morning swims, boat days, sunset seafood dinners, and those quiet little streets you’ll want to wander one more time, this place has a sneaky way of stealing your heart. It’s not about doing everything but more about slowing down and soaking it all in. TWYIL 🩵🐬
